Itapcha (אִתְהַפְּכָא): Transformation

Transforming and Elevating Impulse

Ithapcha is an Aramaic term referring to the “transformation” of darkness into light or the transformation of mundane/negative energy into holy energy.

Ithapcha and Iskafia both work with the animal soul. With Iskafia it is about subduing the impulse, whereas Ithapcha transforms it, turning darkness to light or elevating one thing to another.

Kabbalistic Basis: While it is a foundational concept in Chassidism—which brings Kabbalistic ideas into daily life—it is rooted in the deeper kabbalistic understanding of transforming the Kelipot (shells of impurity) into holiness, or elevating the “sparks of divinity” trapped within physical reality.
Transformation vs. Suppression: It is usually discussed alongside Itkafia (suppression/conquest), which is the battle to suppress negative inclination. Ithapcha is the higher level: not just conquering the urge, but flipping it to serve a holy purpose.
