Ohr Chozer (אור חוזר): Returning Light
Unselfish Bestowal of Light and Unity.
Ohr Chozer represents the spiritual light that a created vessel (or soul) sends back up toward the Creator. It is an act of resistance against receiving pleasure for oneself alone, transforming selfish desire into an intention to bestow light and unity, often acting as a bridge to connect with divine energy.
Concepts of Ohr Chozer:
- Definition: Means “Reflected Light” or “Returning Light,” a “Second Light” generated through personal spiritual effort and resistance, in contrast to Ohr Yashar (Direct Light/First Light) which is an unearned gift from above.
- The Mechanism (Masach): When the initial “desire to receive” (Malchut/Kli) encounters divine light, it applies a Tzimtzum (restriction) or Masach (screen/resistance) to stop receiving for selfish gain, and instead generates Ohr Chozer.
- Purpose: The Ohr Chozer enables the vessel to receive the light without ego, creating unity between the creation and the Creator. It is the spiritual mechanism for transforming darkness or challenges into a “second light”.
- Application: It is described as a “desire to respond” or “desire to bestow” rather than just a desire to receive. It represents the soul’s active work, rather than just passive reception.
Ohr Chozer is essential in shaping the structure of the upper worlds (the 4 phases/Behinot) and is central to the spiritual development of individuals
