Nitzotzot (ניצוצות): Sparks
Holy Sparks
These are divine fragments of light scattered throughout the material world, resulting from the cosmic “Shattering of the Vessels” (Shevirat HaKelim). These sparks are trapped within physical matter, or “shells” (kelipot), and it is the responsibility of humans to liberate and elevate them through holy actions, intention, and intentional living.
Aspects of Nitzotzot (Sparks):
Origin: According to Lurianic Kabbalah, during creation, divine light was too intense for the lower 7 sefirot (vessels), causing them to shatter. The remnants of this light are the nitzotzot.
The Mission of Elevation: Humans raise these sparks through Torah study, prayer, and utilizing physical objects for holy purposes (e.g., eating food with the intention of having strength to serve God).
Tikkun Olam: By elevating the sparks, individuals perform Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), helping to return these fragments to their divine source and restore cosmic harmony.
Everyday Life: Sparks are found in everything, from the food we eat to challenging situations or people we encounter, offering opportunities for spiritual refinement.
